BMSTC Announced Development of Beijing Design Industry

During the seminar held recently which aimed on how industrial design promoted enterprises’ self-renovation, Chen Ligong, committeeman from Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission( BMSTC) said that Beijing has 68 colleges which comprise designing department offering Bachelor’s degree, with 140 thousand students major in design, occupying 10 percent of around the country. Design creative industry stands an important position among culture creative industry which is strongly promoted by Beijing government. According to the design and renovation required by the industrialization of technology, BMSTC launched design and renovation promoting program, helping enterprises in performing design and renovation. Over the past year, 48 enterprises which are part of industries strongly promoted by Beijing government, covering IT, transportation equipment, crucial equipment, urban industries, co-operated with design organizations.

Till now, 14 design-cooperate-demonstration and enterprise-design-diagnosis projects achieved 200-300 thousand subsidies from BMSTC. In 2006, Beijing’s design service industry earned 32.84 billion yuan. According to the data of the early 11 months in 2007, Beijing’s design service industry boomed its earning up to 43.42 billion yuan. Design service industry has become the most rapidly developing sector among the 9 sectors in culture creative industry defined by Beijing government. Upon now, Beijing has 16 thousand design companies with 250 thousand employees.
