Mirroring China- Exhibition “Augen-Blick 2.0” organized by ONOFF-Forum Berlin
July 28, 2008 – 9:44 am
The exhibition shows work of young international artists, which bring up for discussion the developments of China after the Cultural Revolution. In a broad spectrum of topics and art forms will perceptions, reflections and also fantasies over modern China be presented to the public.
Since the economic reforms in the late 70’s China has undergone dramatic transformations in all social spheres. In recent years the speed of the change has been increasing still more rapidly. That makes the prompt documentation and also understanding of this process an absolute necessity. On the other hand the sheer extent and the multilayeredness of the change mean that a “Grand Narrative” would be absolutely impossible. On the contrary observations from individual perspectives could often help to reach into the depth of the phenomenon complex and become aware of unattended aspects.
The intention of the exhibition is no more and no less than to offer a platform for those creative studies on the changes of China. The works resemble mirror images, each reflecting from an unmistakably individual perspective a certain aspect of the transformation. The comparison between these different “reflections” as well as their artistic representations will permit the visitor to win unexpected new insights into the reality of modern China. Also we hope to stimulate productive discussions between the artists and the public.
