Shanghai Creative Industry Booms Remarkable

Reported by the Technology Daily from the August 15th news press hosted by Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai creative industry achieved an added-value of RMB 85.781 billion, with a growth of 27.2% comparing with that in 2006, occupying 7% of the city’s GDP, and has become an important rising industry in the economic and social development of Shanghai.

The gathering places of Shanghai’s creative industry route a way differing to Beijing 798 creative park does, which pursue culture creativities. In Shanghai they generally follow the route of industrial creativity, paying more attention to developing industries that are relative to manufacturing, pursuing “Created in Shanghai”. Up to now, more than 3000 enterprises have entered 75 creative industrial parks, with relative employments of over 30,000. The gathering places of Shanghai’s creative industry have become preferred situations for many international creative organizations.

The foundation of gathering places of creative industry provided conditions for creative talents to gather and carve out. The Only Creative Design Park, which is adjacent to the Tongji University, has gathered over 30 architectural design enterprises which are mostly created by teachers and students from Tongji University, and it has become a practicing place for students in school.

The problems that related to intellectual property rights within the gathering places of creative industry have been paid more and more attentions to. The Shanghai Creative Industry Intellectual Property Rights Protection Union was founded on May 2007. Then the creative industry has a relative consummate organization that is in charge of self-discipline, protection and maintenance for intellectual property rights. Meanwhile, the “Creative Envelope” registration and record system was launched at the end of 2007, with which a creative designer’s right could be protected effectively when facing intellectual property right dissensions by the “Creative Envelope” which could be one of the evidences to make sure whether a right usurpation exists.

It is reported that with the organizing by related parties of Shanghai, Shanghai Creative Design Center would set up a platform for the public training for the creative industry, and has achieved agreements to co-operate with domestic and foreign colleges and training organizations, solving the “bottleneck” problem of creative talent resources. It will also help optimizing legal-protection system for the intellectual property rights at the same time.
