Hangzhou Industrial Design Association Officially Founded

On September 23, 2008, Hangzhou Industrial Design Association was founded officially, with 59 initial enterprise members. Hangzhou has the soil suitable for the growth of industrial design, with a solid industrial economy basis as well as enterprise basis. Also Hangzhou has a number of universities and colleges, which establish the human resource basis for the industrial design industry. Yet there are still some distances between Hangzhou and cities such as Beijing and Shanghai in the development of industrial design industry, presenting a profile of “small, low and loose”. The industry is spontaneously developed with unreasonable professional structures. As declared by Zhao Likang, vise general secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Government, that the foundation of the association could effectively promote the communication and cooperation of industrial design firms, industrial enterprises, universities, research institutes and agencies, upgrading the development of Hangzhou’s industrial design industry, and eventually helping realize the transforming from “made in Hangzhou” to “created in Hangzhou”. Zhao Jilai, chairman of Hangzhou Trade Commission, was elected the first chairman of the city’s industrial design association. He said: “Despite slow down in the increase, enterprises in Hangzhou are still developing healthily. Among them, enterprises such as Xizi-Otis and Wanxiang still gain rapid progress. It is crucial to keep on product renovation, while industrial design plays a major role in product upgrading.”

It is known that the association will hold various kinds of activities on industrial design, strengthening the combination of development between industrial design and industrial enterprises. One of its important tasks is to set up the Development Program of Hangzhou’s Industrial Design, promoting an orderly and healthy growth of industrial design industry.
