2008 National Forum For Chairmen Of New Media Art Department Held At Tongji University

Hosted by the Degree Committee of the State Council, organized by Tongji University, and titled “new media, new idea and new life”, the 2008 National Forum For Chairmen Of New Media Art Department was held at Tongji University on November 8-9. The forum focused on experience on talents training on new media art, exploring a new training way combining technology and art. Principals of new-media-art related departments from dozens of universities around the world attended the forum.

The forum opened at the 1/F hall of the complex building at Tongji University on November 8 a.m.. Zhao Qinping, vice minister of the Ministry of Education, sent to the forum a letter of congratulations. The opening ceremony was attended and addressed by Yang Yuliang and Guo Xinli, director and deputy-director of the Degree Office under the State Council, and Zhou Jialun, the Party Committee Secretary of Tongji University.

During the session, the representatives discussed on topics such as “new media art and the development of the subject”, “new media art and the creative culture industry” and “new media and the harmonious society”, exchanging experiences on training practices and talent-cultivating around new media art in colleges. All agreed that new media art should emphasize on the combination of new technology with art, and the integration of creation and production. Colleges should integrate subject resources, break bulwarks between subjects, strengthen technology exchanging, develop cross-subject co-operation, even set up training bases for talent-cultivation for new media art, strengthening integration among producing, training, and researching.
